Agrisafe Helpline

The AgriStress Helpline is a free and confidential crisis and support line that you can call or text 24/7, and interpretation services are provided in 160 languages. The helpline is answered by trained professionals who can offer support and/or help you find mental health resources in your area. We know that agriculture is unique – that is why our crisis specialists have received training on the factors that impact people working in agriculture.

Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project

ASAP (Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project) is a nonprofit based in Asheville, North Carolina, serving the Southern Appalachian region. Our mission is to help local farms thrive, link farmers to markets and supporters, and build healthy communities through connections to local food.

Blue Ridge Women In Agriculture

Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture helps build an equitable, sustainable High Country local food system by supporting producers and cultivating community connections that educate, inspire, and increase the demand for local food.

Farm Bureau North Carolina

North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation was formed in 1936 as a non-profit general farm organization to serve farmers and provide a unified voice for the interests and needs of the farming community. Today, North Carolina Farm Bureau serves as an advocate for our members at the local, state, national, and international levels – providing educational, economic, public affairs, marketing, and various other services to our members. Over the years, North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation has grown into the largest general farm organization in the state with more than 500,000 member families, yet we remain true to our grassroots heritage and steadfast in our mission to advocate for farm and rural families.

National Black Farmers Association

The National Black Farmers Association (NBFA) is a non-profit organization representing African American farmers and their families in the United States. As an association, it serves tens of thousands of members nationwide. NBFA’s education and advocacy efforts have been focused on civil rights, land retention, access to public and private loans, education and agricultural training, and rural economic development for black and other small farmers.

Organic Growers School

Organic Growers School is the premier provider of practical and affordable organic education in the Southern Appalachians, building a vibrant food & farming community by boosting the success of organic home growers and farmers in our region. Our hands-on training, workshops, conferences, and partnerships inspire, educate, and support people to farm, garden, and live organically.

RAFI USA

Working across agricultural sectors and collaboratively through coalitions, RAFI-USA combines on–the-ground practical services and policy advocacy to ensure farmers have access to the tools they need to make the right choices for their farms and families as well as for their communities and the environment.

Virginia Association for Biological Farming

The Virginia Association for Biological Farming (VABF) encompasses a community of farmers, gardeners, homesteaders, students, teachers, researchers, and general supporters of local and sustainable food systems.

Virginia Agribusiness Council

The Virginia Agribusiness Council is a non-profit member organization committed to representing the agriculture and forest industries in the Commonwealth with a unified voice through effective government relations efforts. It advocates for the business interests of the diversified industry of agriculture and forestry.

Virginia Farm Link

Virginia Farm Link connects farm owners interested in exiting agriculture with those seeking farms and farm businesses.

Virginia Grain Producers Association

The Virginia Grain Producers Association (VGPA) represents Virginia’s corn and small grains producers. Our association’s resources combined with staff and Board efforts include leadership meetings and travel, five annual events and producer programs implemented to support busy grain producers and Virginia’s corn and small grains industries.

Virginia State Dairymen’s Association

The Virginia State Dairymen’s Association was founded in 1907. The goal of the VSDA is to represent and promote the dairy industry in Virginia. The VSDA is a member-organization that spans the state of Virginia and represents its member’s views on a state and federal level. We are committed to ensuring a profitable and sustainable dairy industry here in Virginia.

Appalachian Harvest Food Hub

Appalachian Harvest is Appalachian Sustainable Development’s rural food hub. Our food hub assisted growers by transitioning them from tobacco to produce, allowing them to remain on their family farms. We provide GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certification training, assist with organic certifications, and provide them with much-needed, year-round technical support.

Carolina Farm Stewardship

The Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) is a farmer-driven, membership-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that helps people in North and South Carolina grow and enjoy local, organic food. Founded in 1979, CFSA is the oldest and largest sustainable agriculture organization in the Southeast.

Conservation Trust For North Carolina

Conservation Trust for North Carolina seeks to inspire and enable people to build resilient, just communities.

Farmer Incubator Program

Farmer Incubator Program is a critical part of the Farmland Access Service, providing land to initiate or expand agricultural businesses. Participants can spend up to five years in the program. There are two operations successfully producing on the farm, and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Farmer Resource Network

The Farmer Resource Network is a free search tool that can be used to find organizations and resources that are useful for farmers, agricultural service providers, farmworkers, farm communities, and farming families across the United States.

NC Farm Link

NC Farm Link is a program of NC State Extension that connects farmers, landowners, and service providers across North Carolina, helping to grow the state’s agriculture industry. NC FarmLink maintains databases of available farmland and farmers looking for land and works with landowners and farmers to ensure an appropriate and lasting match is made.

NC Extension Offices

The N.C. Cooperative Extension has offices in all 100 North Carolina counties and with the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians (EBCI). Find your local extension center’s using the link.

Virginia Natural Resources Conservation

Virginia farmers, cattle producers, and forest landowners are the true experts on their operations. We don’t mandate conservation activities but instead work collaboratively to develop strategies for achieving their goals and vision. We value our role as trusted advisors and customize our approach for each operation We’re also strong advocates for locally-led conservation, closely collaborating with our sister agencies, state and local governments and advocacy groups to protect Virginia’s precious natural resources.

NC Farm Service Agency

The North Carolina Farm Service Agency (FSA) is an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that serves all farmers, ranchers, and agricultural partners through the delivery of effective and efficient agricultural programs for all Americans. FSA serves all 100 counties utilizing 72 county offices.

Virginia Cooperative Extension

Virginia Cooperative Extension brings the resources of Virginia’s land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University, to the people of the commonwealth. Our Extension agents and specialists form a network of educators whose classrooms are the communities, homes, and businesses of Virginia, where they bring research-based solutions to the problems facing Virginians today. We are a product of cooperation among local, state, and federal governments in partnership with tens of thousands of citizens, who, through local Extension Leadership Councils, help design, implement, and evaluate our needs-driven programs.

Virginia Crop Production Association

The Virginia Crop Production Association Inc. is a non-profit organization comprised of Retailers, Distributors, Basic suppliers, Chemical and Fertilizer Custom Applicators, Certified Crop Advisors, Nutrient Management Planners, University and Extension individuals, and State government officials.  Our organization promotes education, training, and product safety at all levels and invests in the future of agriculture.

We provide mediation free of charge to USDA customers in North Carolina and Virginia who have received an adverse decision as part of the informal appeals process

Our mediators are all familiar with farming and rural issues. They are experienced and well-educated and attend yearly training to maintain their skills.

NCAMP and FARM-VA are a program of Western Carolina University’s College of Business.
