NCAMP participated in the \u201cUnderstanding Heirs\u2019 Property at the Community Level\u201d Train-the-Trainer Workshop in Raleigh, North Carolina, on October 29\u201330, 2024, alongside USDA\u2019s Farm Service Agency and other partners. For mediators who strive to settle complicated disputes involving farm succession and land ownership, such as NCAMP’s Mediation Director Bob Holbert and colleagues from FARM-VA, this training offered invaluable insights.<\/p>\n
Mediators can benefit greatly from the training, which addressed the principles of heirs’ property, ways to keep land from becoming heirs’ property, and solutions for current instances. On October 29 & 30, 2024 \u201cUnderstanding Heirs\u2019 Property at the Community Level\u201d Train-the-Trainer Workshop was held in Raleigh, NC. The event was sponsored by USDA\u2019s Farm Service Agency and presenting partners. NCAMP and FARM-VA\u2019s Mediation Director, Bob Holbert, was in attendance along with mediators Wanda Braithwaite-Baril, Kathy Marth, Andy Silver, and Shannon Sneary-Alabanza. The very informative and helpful instruction was presented in three parts: 1) Overview of what is heirs\u2019 property; 2) Strategies to prevent land from becoming heirs\u2019 property, and 3) Resolution of current land tracts falling under this designation.
