One of our educational developers will visit your class to facilitate a focus group with your students while you step out. Students share their feedback confidentially and anonymously, highlighting what\u2019s working well and what could be reconsidered. Afterward, we schedule a consultation to help you implement student feedback effectively by drawing from evidence-based teaching practices and provide you with a detailed report.<\/p>\n
By engaging in this process, you gain direct insight into student experiences and practical recommendations to enhance your teaching – while fostering a more collaborative and responsive learning environment.<\/p>\n

Step 1: Pre-TAP Conversation<\/strong><\/h4>\n
Once you sign up, we\u2019ll schedule a brief pre-TAP conversation to discuss how your class is going and confirm the details of your TAP session.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Step 2: Classroom Visit<\/strong><\/h4>\n
One of our educational developers will visit your class to facilitate the TAP while you step out. The process follows three key stages:<\/p>\n
1. Individual Feedback<\/strong>

Students then form small groups to discuss and refine their responses. Each group submits a collective response, identifying common themes.<\/p>\n3. Whole-Class Discussion & Ranking<\/strong>
Groups share their top priorities for what\u2019s working well and what could be improved. Step 3: Post-TAP Consultation<\/strong><\/h4>\n
During a one-on-one consultation where we will discuss the findings, you\u2019ll receive a detailed report summarizing student feedback. We will help you explore evidence-based strategies to help you make meaningful adjustments for the rest of the semester and you will leave with a personalized action plan.<\/p>\n

The Coulter Faculty Commons provides a mid-semester service for faculty at Western Carolina University. One of our educational developers visits a class and conduct a focus group to determine what is working well in the course and what might be reconsidered. The teacher is not present and students share their opinions confidentially and anonymously. We develop a report and generate recommendations for the faculty to consider.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>
During the focus group activity, we also ask questions about student behavior, which teachers find useful.<\/span><\/p>
