He breaks down group work into concepts, skills and roles, and tactics and strategies.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.0.6&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.0.6&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.0.6&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3>What does cooperative learning look like?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Positive interdependence (ways to ensure students work together)<\/li>\n<li>Individual accountability (making sure all students are learning)<\/li>\n<li>Face-to-face interaction (many ways to interact)<\/li>\n<li>Interpersonal and small-group skills (to enable effective group functioning)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_3,2_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.0.6&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.0.6&#8243;][et_pb_image src=&#8221;https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/cfc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/87\/2019\/11\/The-Group-Book.png&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.0.6&#8243;][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;2_3&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.0.6&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.0.6&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h3>The Group Book<\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Phipps cowrote and published The Group Book: Effective Skills for Cooperative Groups as a reference manual for teachers and students to use in bringing together the necessary pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty can use it as a workbook for students (e.g. study p.5-10 and come into class prepared to practice the skill).<\/p>\n<p>Or they can review it themselves and deploy the strategies as needed.<\/p>\n<p>Some teachers give it to students to help them take ownership of their group learning and solve the kinds of 21st century problems they will encounter throughout the rest of their life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.0.6&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;
