\u201cI\u2019ve had to revise my syllabus twice, changing the schedule, and as a result, changing the weight of the first two exams\u2026it\u2019s an unfortunate start\u2026not something that cannot be overcome.\u201d \u2013 Professor Brian Pilecki<\/p>\n

Technology-based assignment alternatives:<\/strong><\/h5>\n
    \n
  1. Lecture \/ Discussion\n
      \n
    • Record a lecture (easy solution \u2013 you can use Microsoft PPT with voiceover or Panopto)<\/li>\n
    • Use a discussion board for students to discuss the topic and respond to each other<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Hold class synchronously \u2013 Zoom<\/li>\n
    • E-learning days using the LMS\n
        \n
      • Use Ted talks or other similar resources to prompt learning and discussion.<\/li>\n
      • Taping video or audio lectures ahead of time on subjects that can be placed anywhere in the semester, but need to be addressed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • Remind101 \u2013 text messaging from teacher to student where numbers are anonymous<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        What if students lose electricity?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

        Have students form groups at the beginning of the semester, share contact information that way if phones or computers die there is likely a possibility that someone still has a charge. Even if campus is closed, students on campus can get together to work on groups using technology or physical assignments.<\/p>\n

        Offline assignment alternatives:<\/strong><\/h5>\n

        1. The dreaded paper\n
            \n
          1. Pre-written prompts broad enough to relate to anything taught up to the current period of the semester<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
          2. Creative use of snow\n
              \n
            1. Health: get out in the snow and have students take baseline stats and then record their exercise and retake stats<\/li>\n
            2. Science: \u201ckitchen test\u201d with snow<\/li>\n
            3. Math: Calculate speeds of sleds etc.<\/li>\n
            4. English: creative writing pieces<\/li>\n
            5. Arts: create art using snow or through observation of snow<\/li>\n
            6. Education: students plan own alternative lesson for a hypothetical snow day<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
