Karen L. Wagar

Karen Louise Wagar (Pierce), 76 of Cumming, Georgia passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. Born in Newton, Massachusetts, November 9, 1947 to John and Phyllis Pierce. While still young, her family relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, where she met her soulmate, Bruce Wagar, while still in grade school. They attended Western Carolina University and were married in 1969, celebrating 55 years of marriage together this past August.

Karen was a lifelong teacher, serving 31 years as a classroom Spanish teacher in Broward County. Retiring in 2000, they relocated to Forsyth County, Georgia, where she became a professional grandmother. She dedicated much time to each grandson, recognizing the importance of being both a sibling and an individual. An avid quilter, she introduced her daughter-in-law to the craft and was an active member of the Piecemakers Quilt Guild. Karen loved history and travel, and as a teacher took large groups of students to Europe each year to learn more about other cultures. She taught by example, showing others how hard work, dignity, and care were the keys to an exemplary life.
