Muriel C. Thompson
Born on January 20, 1953 in Demorest Georgia, Muriel grew up in Athens, Georgia where she graduated from Clarke Central High School. Soon afterwards she met the love of her life, Mike, and they were married on September 2, 1972. They both graduated from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC, and after moving to Birmingham, AL Muriel earned her Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Alabama. She began her counseling career at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Alabama at Birmingham. She then went into private practice with other therapists, and retired in 2020.
Muriel is survived, and will be greatly missed by her husband of 52 years, Robert Michael Thompson (Mike) of Birmingham, AL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Holly Thompson (Steve Sartino) of Birmingham, AL; and Katy Storer (Doug) of Celina, TX; four grandchildren, Oskar and Charlie of Birmingham, AL, and Maddy and Everleigh of Celina, TX; one sister, Wynell Clement of Statesville, NC; two brothers, Merritt Clement of Charleston, SC and Brad Clement of Asheville, NC. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, and friends who will sadly miss her.
She lived a life of selfless love, giving her time and care to others through her work as a licensed clinical social worker and therapist. She loved her family deeply and treated her friends like family, touching countless lives with her genuine kindness and contagious joy. She was a true blessing to everyone who knew her, and her absence leaves an immeasurable void in our hearts. She leaves a legacy of love, faith, patience, generosity and pure joy.
