Zane E. Metcalf
After a 30-year battle with cancer, Zane Edward Metcalf went home to be with his Heavenly Father on February 13, 2025. He was born October 25, 1941 in Haywood County, North Carolina to John Davis Metcalf and Effie Rodgers Metcalf. He was a longtime resident of Athens, Georgia.
Zane is survived by his wife of 61 years, Berniece Baldwin Metcalf, two daughters, Lisa (Spencer) Breedlove, Christy (ML) Nel, and four grandchildren, Tyler, Jared, Elisabeth Breedlove and Anneke Nel. Also, Zane is survived by two brothers, Rex (Joann) Metcalf and Keith (Barbara) Metcalf.
Zane was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church, Athens, Georgia, and for the past 15 years attended Middle Fork Baptist Church, Rosman, North Carolina. He was a graduate of Brevard College and Western Carolina University. Zane loved working with numbers and was part of the Finance Department for several companies including American Thread, Celanese Plastics, Wendell Fabrics, and retired after many years with Roper Industries. Zane’s hobbies were fishing, golfing, and reading. He also enjoyed caring for a small vegetable garden.
