Philip A. Cable

Philip Aaron Cable, 55, of Waynesville, passed away unexpectedly on February 17, 2025.
Born on October 12, 1969, in Waynesville, NC, Philip was a man of service, adventure, and deep-rooted dedication. He proudly wore many titles throughout his life-Marine, police officer, mentor, and friend. Philip was a graduate of Tuscola High School (Class of 1987) and Western Carolina University (1993). He followed in his Dad’s footsteps entering the Marine Corps in December 1993 and proudly served his country rising to the rank of Captain. Before ending his commission in February 2005, he served as an intelligence officer during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2003 / 2004. He later continued his commitment to protecting others as a police officer in Carlsbad, CA, before retiring and returning to his beloved hometown.
In Waynesville, Philip embraced life at a different pace-playing golf, riding his motorcycle, and sharing laughs with friends. He also found fulfillment serving on the audio-visual team at Hazelwood Baptist Church, always willing to lend a hand wherever needed.

Philip was preceded in death by his father, Robert J. Cable. He leaves behind his daughter, Christina Cable; his mother, Regina Cable; his brother, Kevin Cable (Tanya); and his sister, Angela Gryder (Mike); four nieces and one nephew. His presence will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered, by all who knew him.
Philip – A Hero, A Friend, and My Dad – Message from His Daughter
As I think of the twenty-three years I had with my dad, I realize he was my hero. He was a Marine – Semper Fi!, a police officer, an honors graduate, a musician, a jokester, a friend, and a philosopher of life. He was that guy.
This is how I want to remember him-how he deserves to be remembered.
My dad gave so much to this country. He served and protected the town where I went to school (probably just to keep an eye on me). He took me to Disneyland every Friday, as long as I finished my homework. He paid for my trumpet lessons, let me watch SpongeBob, introduced me to the Beastie Boys, and brought some very interesting people into my life. There are no words that can fully capture how remarkable he was. He has positively impacted my life in countless ways. I have so many memories that will never be forgotten and I am forever grateful for my dad, who did the best he could.

My dad sacrificed so much. He served with honor. He loved deeply. He cared with his whole heart, so much so that I know it hurt him sometimes. To all his friends in this community, to those he kept close-you know he loved you.
For anyone grieving this news, even though my father had some battles and struggles he fought hard. Like a true warrior. I want to share the peaceful energy, warmth, and love that my family and I have felt from my father since his passing. I truly believe he is in a better place.
