Christopher “Ed” Hamlet
Ed Hamlet, 81, of Sylva passed away quietly at home on February 24, 2025.
He was born and raised in Durham, NC, the son of the late Chris and Virginia Hamlet.
Ed served in the US Army in the mid-60s, then returned to Durham and UNC- Chapel Hill where he met his wife, Betsey. He graduated from WCU in 1971. Ed worked with computers for Bank of America his entire career, first in Charlotte and then in Jacksonville, FL.
After retiring, Ed and Betsey moved to Sylva in July of 2005 where they both became very involved in the building of the Jackson County Library Complex.
Ed is survived by Betsey, his wife of 52 years; son, Chris; sister, Jayne Hays of Asheville; brother, Bill Hamlet of Wilmington; Betsey’s brother, Peter (Marge) of Saco, Maine and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
