Timothy “Tim” M. Culbreth

Timothy Michael Culbreth, age 75, passed away at Piedmont Christian Home in High Point NC, Thursday, March 27, 2025. Tim was born Greensboro, NC, son of the late Arnold and Ida Lenora Culbreth. Tim graduated from Southeast Guilford High School in 1967, received a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Carolina University in 1973, and went back to school to earn his airframe and powerplant aircraft mechanics certification at Spartan School of Aeronautics, Tulsa OK in 1978, also later attended NC State University for additional classes to become a teacher.

Tim was an FAA certified aircraft inspector, mechanic and instructor. Tim practiced as an aircraft mechanic for Causey Aviation and was a teacher for 7 years at Eastern Randolph High School teaching an air and space elective class where the students built a functional airplane. He helped develop the local ROTC Civil Air Patrol Auxiliary Squadron at the school before moving on to become an instructor at Guilford Technical Community College where he taught the aircraft mechanics Airframe and Powerplant Certification courses and degree program for more than 25 years where he retired. Also, retiring as a Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, he earned many awards and honors over the years for these efforts in teaching and supporting his local community including Honorary Recruiter for the United States Air Force, the Frank G. Brewer Civil Air Patrol Memorial Aerospace Award, the Billy Mitchell award, the Chuck Yeager Award, Paul Garber Award, the Grover Loening Award, and the Commanders Commendation.

Tim is survived by Dixie Culbreth; sons, Christopher and Jacob Culbreth; brother, Arnold “Butch” Culbreth Jr.; sister, Sue Persons, and grandchildren Jacob and Weston Culbreth.

Tim was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was a caring man devoted to his family and to his community causes and groups.
