He was born in Danville, VA on April 17, 1951, a son of the late Herbert Miles Jones and Mamie Lee Underwood Jones. Robert was a graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School in the class of 1969. He held a degree in Geology from Western Carolina University. Robert was a long time active member of Boy Scout Troop # 701. Most of his life was spent in Rockingham County where he retired from his position as Inspector with Rockingham County Soil and Water Department. Following retirement, he worked as a Flagger for VIR Raceway. Robert was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.
In addition to his mother, Robert is survived by two sons, Matthew Jones and wife Addie of Greensboro, NC, Marc Jones of Eden, NC, two granddaughters, Dorothy and Margaret and one sister Cynthia Jones Forsythe (David) of Yanceyville, NC.
A Funeral Service for Robert will be conducted at Prospect United Methodist Church, 1900 US Highway 158 West, Yanceyville, NC 27379 on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Scott Coats and Kin Watlington officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1:00pm until 1:45pm at Prospect United Methodist Church.
