Philip G. Preston

Philip Good Preston Sr.
September 20, 1966- August 22, 2025
Philip was born at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg South Carolina on September 20th 1966. As an infant, the family moved first to Hendersonville North Carolina where his father taught at the Blue Ridge School. The family moved to Richmond Virginia where Philip attended Saint Christophers School. The family moved back home to Tryon, North Carolina in 1977 where Philip attended Tryon Elementary School and Tryon High School (class of 1985). Philip was an avid swimmer, tennis player and all around sports enthusiast. As a young teenager Philip attended the Tryon Scout Camp on Lake Lanier S.C. where he developed his love for summer camp. He bacame a regular camp counselor in his teens at Camp Skyuka on White Oak Mountain where he taught swimming and tennis.
Philip attended Western Carolina University as a Communications Major. Philip was an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity throughout his time at WCU. He was a rush chairman and avid member of the fraternity’s intramural sports teams such as: water polo, tennis and volleyball. He was also the Microphone Cheerleader at home WCU football games. Where he would put on many hats and hilariously engage the crowd. He worked for a time at Cataloochee Ski Resort as an instructor and Sylva Pool as a lifeguard.
Philip moved to Atlanta as a sales representative for Savvy Eyewear. Where he lived for a time with several WCU graduates. He met Catherine in 1993. They were married in 1998. They had their first son, PJ(Philip Jr.) in 2000 and their second son, Grayson in 2004.
Philip has always been a proud Alumni of Western Carolina University. Go CATS!

Survivors include his mother, Jean Paul Preston; brother, John Paul Preston; sister-in-law, Nikki R. Preston and niece, Eileen Preston.
He will be missed tremendously by all who ever had the opportunity to have had him in their life. A sunbeam has been extinguished but not forgotten.
