Suzanne M. Wood

She was born on September 20, 1968, in Chicago, IL during a time when her father, John R. Wasson, was earning a PhD in Chemistry at the Illinois Institute of Technology. From there the family went to Kentucky and then North Carolina while he pursued first a university teaching career and then launched a successful chemical manufacturing business, Advanced Materials. Her elementary school years were spent in Lexington, KY, and Chapel Hill, NC. She graduated from Ashbrook High School in Gastonia, NC in 1986. From 1987-1991 she worked toward a BA in Accounting at Western Carolina University in Cullowee, NC. During that time she met Robert Mawnis who became the father of her first child, Alena Katherine Wasson. After Alena was born in 1992, Suzanne finished her education while coping with being a single mother. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting in May, 1994. Her parents were very proud.

In 1995 she met Michael Wood. The three of them relocated to Columbia MO where he had family. They married and had two more children, Brandi Selena Wood, and Logan Michael Wood. Alena has a daughter, Effie Madeline Pullen. Brandi has two daughters, Alexia Marie Dalton and Nichole Haven Abrego. Logan married Whitney Reed on July 4, 2024. Besides her three children and three grandchildren she leaves a mother, Shirley Schuchart Wasson, of Cary, NC, and a brother, John Russel Wasson, Jr., of Moncure, NC, to mourn her passing. Suzanne lived the greatest life she could regardless of the years of battling her depression silently. It never dimmed her spirit. She was cheerful, kind, wore a smile, and always had a story to tell. She loved her children and supported them in whatever they wanted to achieve.
