Sharon P. Johnson

Sharon Powell Johnson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024. Born on June 14, 1941, in Hendersonville, NC, Sharon was the daughter of James Reid Powell and Edna Love Powell. She was the cherished little sister of William Powell (Barbara), George (Lee) Powell and Bobby Powell.

Sharon’s journey began at Hendersonville High School, where she was a standout athlete, holding the women’s record for the most points scored in a single basketball game. She graduated with the class of 1959 and went on to Western Carolina College, earning a degree in Education. During her time at college, she was an active member of the Delta Zeta Sorority.

Sharon’s 45-year teaching career spanned from Hendersonville to West Palm Beach, where she touched countless lives with her dedication and passion for education. Her influence as a teacher was profound and lasting.

In retirement Sharon embraced her love for travel and antiques, exploring the country with her long-time companion, Jack Lowen. After many adventures, she returned to her hometown of Hendersonville where she delighted in reconnecting with friends and family.

Sharon is survived by her two children, Shannon L. Johnson and Beverly B. Myers (Robert), and her two grandchildren, Dylan R. Myers and Kylie R. Myers. She is also survived by her first cousin and dear friend, Drew Brannon. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Sharon Powell Johnson’s life was a testament to seeking adventure, living fearlessly with faith in God, and loving others. Her legacy of kindness, passion, and dedication will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.  Shuler Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.
