Lloyd L. Hensley

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Lloyd Lawrence Hensley passed away on September 30, 2024 at his home in Baton Rouge. Born in 1931 in Burnsville, NC, he was raised in a large family in the North Carolina mountains.

Upon graduation from high school, he served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and later in the U.S. Air Force. He then attended Western Carolina University and received his degree in Business. After college he was employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company where he worked his entire career of 35 years as a Claims Supervisor in the states of Kentucky, Indiana, Hawaii, and Virginia.

He and his wife Judy lived in Roanoke, Virginia for over 40 years where they raised their two children. After his retirement, they moved to Baton Rouge in 2003 to be closer to their grandchildren. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Judy Greer Hensley; daughter Laura Hensley Choate and her husband Michael Choate; son Brent Hensley; grandchildren Benjamin Choate and Abigail Choate, and brother Ronald Hensley.

He is preceded in death by his parents Eula and Shelby Hensley, and his brothers Craig, Wilson, Albert, Leslie, and sisters Doris and Hilda Hensley.

Lloyd was best known for his devoted spirit of service to others and for his love for Christ. He was an ordained deacon in four different churches, and was a longtime Sunday School teacher, Royal Ambassadors youth program leader, and headed up any service project that was ever needed. During his time in Baton Rouge, he was a devoted member of Istrouma Baptist Church and the East Baton Rouge Lion’s club. As a Lion, Lloyd helped hundreds of people in need of eyeglasses and received many awards for his service, including the “Knight of Sight” from the Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on October 8, 2024 at Istrouma Baptist Church beginning with visitation at 1 p.m. and the service to follow at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Louisiana Lions Eye Foundation.
