Dr. Lois S. DeWeese
Lois was an educator at heart, earning her Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, her Master’s degree from Western Carolina University, and her Doctorate in Education from the University of Georgia. She taught in Haywood and Jackson Counties before moving into school administration at Fairview school and Jefferson, Ga until she retired in 1996. Lois cared deeply about her family and community. Among her many endeavors, she served with the Guardian ad litem program and as a volunteer with Circles of Hope. Lois made sure her family knew it was important to “do good” for others.
Lois was predeceased by her parents and her children’s father, Jerry DeWeese, Sr. Left to carry on her legacy are her children, Jerry (Catherine) DeWeese and Lyn (Jeff) Parkllan; her grandchildren Maggie DeWeese (Justyn), Katie McCollum (Aaron), Callan Hudson and Olivia Hudson. She is also survived by her brothers, Phil (Judi) Slagle, Tom (Gayle) Slagle, Ned Slagle; her “sister” cousins Norma Allman and Betty Partain and her sister in law, Mary G. Slagle; as well as many much-loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
