Dr. Theodora “Tedi” H. Koehn

Dr. Theodora “Tedi” Koehn passed away peacefully after a long illness with her loving husband and sister by her side on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. She was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2012 yet inspired many by leading a very full life throughout a course of ever-evolving medical treatments.

Tedi was born in Easton, MD on March 10, 1957 to parents Robert Swanson and Ruth Bishop, both deceased. Tedi grew up in Dunedin, Florida, and graduated from Dunedin High School in 1975. She attended Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC, graduating with a Psychology degree in 1978. Always ready for new experiences, she moved to Southern California in 1985. A passion for finding “what we are really doing when we are doing what we are doing” led Tedi to a Masters Degree in Psychology from Antioch College in 1995 and a subsequent counseling career. She went on to receive her Psy. D. in Clinical Psychology from Ryokan College in 1999.

In 1995, Tedi married George Small. Following a number of earthquakes and way too much traffic, they moved to Dallas in 2003. Tedi spent almost two decades helping her North Texas clients with the challenges they faced until she retired and closed her practice at the end of 2022.

Tedi’s curiosity, quick smile, and eagerness to laugh shaped everything she did. She had no difficulty engaging strangers in a conversation about almost any topic. She deeply enjoyed the latest fashions, flower arrangements, and fine cuisine. She also loved to read, travel, and explore nature, whether on a beach, by a stream, or in the mountains. She especially took pleasure in decorating for the holidays and playing tennis with her many friends. And she was always up for adventures great or small, and special daily moments with George and their dogs.

Besides her husband, Tedi is survived by her twin sister Robin Swanson of Houston, TX and brother David Koehn of Tampa, FL. She is also survived by her nephews Michael Dundrea (Parkland, MD), David Dundrea (Katy, TX), Christopher Small (Wenham, MA), Andrew Small (Kittery Point, ME) and niece Brittany Ruben (Tampa, FL), several cousins and numerous in-laws. She will be deeply missed by all.
