Waynesville- George Willard Cogdill, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. A beloved husband, father, and friend, Willard will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A native of Jackson County, born December 27, 1933, Willard was a cherished son of the late Charlie Baxter Cogdill and Dollie Queen Cogdill. In addition to his parents, he is also proceeded in death by his son Wesley Scott Cogdill and his siblings Divola Nichalson, Clarine Norman, Dixie Crawford, Charles Cogdill, Jerald Cogdill, and Mosele Cogdill, as well as his eldest great-grandchild Trenton Wayne Caldwell.
Willard led a life of service, integrity and compassion. A dedicated member of Beth Eden Baptist Church, he found a great joy in hunting, fishing, NASCAR races, and sports of every season. His generous spirit compassionate kindness have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, he will be dearly missed.
After enlisting in the Army in 1956, Willard served two years in Germany. Upon his return he graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Western Carolina University. He enjoyed a fulfilling career as a division manager at Dayco Corp, where he dedicated 30 years of service until his retirement.
Left to cherish Willard’s memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Evelyn Davis Cogdill; his beloved children, Tammy Cogdill-Caldwell, Tony Cogdill and his wife, Lisa, and Chuck Cogdill and his wife, Teresa. He is also remembered by his sister, Joyce Davis Cogdill; his brother Lanny D. Cogdill and his wife, Sue; his grandchildren, Mark Cogdill, Valerie King and her husband, Dustin, Eric Caldwell, Amy Smathers and her husband, Wesley, Mary Opaliski and wife, Brittany, Casey Bass and her husband, Kyle, and Jesse Tenerowicz and her husband, Bryan; eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
