JoAnn P. Holman
JoAnn was born on September 12, 1932 in Brevard, North Carolina to parents Clarence Poole and Maude Bryson Poole.
In 1953, pursuing a career as an educator, JoAnn received a Bachelor’s in Elementary Degree from Florida Southern University where she met her husband, Thomas ”Tom” Holman then earned her Master’s in Elementary education at Western Carolina University. After graduation, JoAnn moved to Vero Beach, Florida where she and Tom became husband and wife.
JoAnn went on to enjoy more than 50 years working as a teacher for the School District of Indian River County.
JoAnn loved the beaches of our community. Living so close she and her family spent many hours in the sun, the sand and the surf. When JoAnn didn’t have sand between her toes, you could find her tucked away somewhere lost in one of the many many books she read. Travel was a passion for both JoAnn and her husband, Tom. They went as far as Spain, lived in Texas during Tom’s tenure at Bell Helicopter, visited a family home in Wyoming as often as they could, spent every summer in her hometown at her cabin, and took great pleasure in exploring all of the islands and cays the Bahamas has to offer.
JoAnn Holman is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence & Maude Poole; and her husband Tom Holman.
She is survived by her son, Steve Holman (Jane), and daughter, Valerie Holman, her grandsons: Thomas and Steven Holman as well as her great granddaughter, Islay Holman.
