Robert “Bob” L. Humphrey

Robert Louis “Bob” Humphrey, age 95, of Franklin, Tennessee, passed away on April 16, 2025.

Born in Decatur, Alabama, Bob lived a life marked by faith, service, and devotion to his family. A longtime resident of both Nashville and Franklin, he was a dedicated member of The Church at West Franklin, where he was actively involved in missions and outreach programs. His faith was central to his life, and he loved talking about it with anyone who would listen.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Donald L. and Louise Humphrey of Nashville; his beloved wife of 58 years, Patsy J. Humphrey; and his son, William E. Cantrell, Jr.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna (John) Hammond; his son, Robert Dale (Gloria) Humphrey; and four grandchildren: Leigh Cantrell Finney, Katie Cantrell, Rob Humphrey, and Mary Humphrey. He also leaves behind his sister, Sarah Carter, and many other loving family members.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Bob also had a long and respected career with the General Motors Acceptance Corporation, where he worked for more than 42 years before retiring in 1997.

Bob graduated from Central High School in Nashville, Tennessee and went on to graduate from Gardner-Webb University, where he played football and was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000. He also earned a degree from Western Carolina University, where he was honored as a member of the 1949 Catamount Football Team, which was later inducted into the university’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.

Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his unwavering faith, servant’s heart, humility, and love for others.
