William “Bill” E. Loytty

William “Bill” Eric Loytty, aged 59, passed away on April 24th, 2025, in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was born November 29th, 1965, in Elmira, New York, the cherished son of Eric and Margaret Loytty. He graduated from Hickory High School in 1984 and earned a B.A. in History from Western Carolina University in 1989. He started on a MA in History at North Carolina State University in 1990. But, in his own words, decided to leave the program after realizing: “Do you know what you can do with an MA in history? Me either, so I quit before graduating.”

Bill was a US Army veteran and served as a company commander in the Reserves from 1983 to 1992. After leaving the Army, he taught himself how to code and began a successful career in information technology. He started as a programmer analyst in 1995 for Information Systems of North Carolina, later joining Microsoft where he worked for twelve years. He began working for Corning Inc. in 2016 following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and two great-grandfathers.

Bill was devoted to his family. He resided in Wilmington, NC, with his wife, Lynda Loytty, whom he married on September 6th of 2015, at the family house on Lake Norman, NC. He is survived by his wife Lynda, his sisters Betsy (Duncan) McCormick and Pat (Dave) Corn, his mother Peggy, and his 6 adored children and step-children: Alex, Eric, Jake, Isabel, Anne, and Matthew. He was the fun-uncle to 5 nieces and nephews. His deep love for his family was evident in the countless cherished moments captured on social media, highlighting his joy in rallying his kids and their cousins for outings to the movies or lunch, and the annual trip to the Battleship USS North Carolina. He was equally adored in return.

Bill was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. His kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed.
