Alfred “Monk” Snyder
Born in Greenwood, he was the husband of Sheila Beaver Snyder and son of the late Alfred Franklin Snyder II and Agnew Smith Snyder. He was a 1959 graduate of Greenwood High School where he played four years of football from 1955 to 1959 for Coach J. W. Babb. He lettered all four years and was installed into the Greenwood Hall of Fame in 2012. He was a 1964 graduate of Western Carolina University where he studied health, physical education and recreation. He retired from Spartan Foods after 29 years of service and also retired from the County of Cherokee as a building inspector. He loved his family, was a faithful Gaffney Indian fan, an avid fisherman, never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He was a member of Buford Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Natalie Snyder Suarez (Matt) of Greer; a stepdaughter, Gina Miers (Chris) of Simpsonville; a sister, Catherine Wilson of Greenwood; six grandchildren, Eden Suarez, Levi Suarez, Stone Suarez, C.J. Miers, Hiley Godfrey (Austin) and Brody Miers; a great-granddaughter, Emmy Godfrey, and two nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Keadle and a niece.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Buford Street United Methodist Church. Memorial services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM at the Church with Reverend Dave Nichols and Reverend Delos Blanton officiating.
