Gordon O. Stephenson

HOLLY SPRINGS – Gordon Oscar Stephenson, 66, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Born in Wake County, NC, Gordon was the son of Oscar and Eleanor Stephenson. A man of quiet strength, deep faith, and practical wisdom, Gordon lived a life rooted in love for his family and service to others.

He was a proud graduate of Western Carolina University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Gordon spent much of his career in construction, where his hands and heart worked in tandem to build, repair, and improve the world around him. He had a gift for fixing things and an incredible knack for figuring out how things worked. No matter the task, Gordon approached every challenge with calm confidence and careful thought.

Gordon was a devoted member of Wake Chapel Christian Church and sang in the church choir as a third-generation member. His faith ran deep, and he cherished the opportunity to worship through music, continuing a family tradition that meant so much to him. He also loved traveling the world with his beloved wife of 38 years, Barbara. He found joy in all aspects of life —working with his hands, sharing time with friends and family, and watching his grandchildren grow. He was humble, generous, and

always ready to help.

Gordon was a man who remained positive in the face of adversity—never one to complain, always one to persevere. His steady spirit and unshakable optimism served as an anchor for his family and friends, especially in life’s hardest seasons. He is survived by his sons, Gordon Matthew Stephenson (Leigh) and Baxter Glenn Stephenson (Natalie); grandchildren, Graham Cole Stephenson, Eleanor Ann Stephenson and Emma Lane Stephenson; sisters, Sarah Ferren and Martha Lawrence; brother, Brooks Stephenson; extended family; cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Haithcox Stephenson.
