Wayne H. Carson

BRYSON CITY – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Howard Carson, 85, Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025. Born Oct. 16, 1940, in Swain County, Wayne was a lifelong resident of the area and most recently resided at Montgomery Senior Living in Star. We extend our sincere gratitude to the staff in the Memory Care Unit for their dedicated care.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Grace T. Carson; siblings, Paul, Dessie Blanton, Oma Smith, Ed, Hazel Wiggins, Lib Lequire, Mack and Troy Carson; and wife, of 25 years, Lane Carson Robinson.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” (Perry) Lopez; grandchildren, Jacob Carson Lopez and Natalie Elizabeth Lopez; step-grandchildren, Meagan (Jeremy) Nicholson and Nicholas Lopez; and great-grandchildren, Nora and Ella Nicholson. He also leaves behind Vivian Wiggins Carson and family; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Swain County High School and Western Carolina University (Class of 1964), Wayne’s career included service as a schoolteacher and a state and federal probation officer. He was also a business owner in Swain County. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed golfing and walking. Wayne was well known for his humor and kind heart, and he will be fondly remembered through the stories shared by those who knew him.
The family will hold a celebration of life visitation Saturday, Feb. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Midway Baptist Church, 155 Laurel Branch Cemetery Road in Bryson City.
