Richard “Steve” Reese
He was the son of the late Shirley Thomas (Sherrill) Reese and the late Hettie Louise Cadell Reese. He is predeceased by his niece, Kristi Nesbitt Sherrill and his great nephews, Sebastian Lee Sherrill and Easton Beau Whatley.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years and best friend, Linda Stallings Reese; his brother, Daniel Lucian Reese (Ginger); his sister, Anne Cadell Reese. He is also survived by his nephew, Marc Alan Nesbitt (Shelly); niece, Destiny Reese Whatley (David); great-nephew, Kameron Sherrill (Miceala); great nieces, Callie, Stella, and Lilah Whatley; and great-great-nephews, Daxton Michael and Maverick Dean Sherrill.
Steve graduated from A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis in 1957 and Western Carolina University (previously college) in 1961. He also served in the Air National Guard. He joined Exxon Company, U.S.A. in Charlotte in 1962 where he met his wife to be in 1964. He retired from Exxon in 1994 after more than 30 years of service. He worked in many areas including accounting, annuity, payroll and many special projects in Charlotte and Houston.
He loved his family dearly and was often asked for advice and support. He was highly regarded by his work family and friends. He had the ability to meet people easily and he developed close friendships.
Away from work he enjoyed camping, fishing, golf, tennis, watching football and racing; as well as wood working: building a dock at Lake Norman, a deck at the beach patio home and a sunroom in Houston. His passion though, was landscaping at our homes in Charlotte, Denver, Houston and finally after returning to Lake Norman he was awarded “Yard of the Season”.
He will be missed and his memory cherished until we meet again.
