A woman with many titles: child of God, daughter, sister, aunt, wife and friend. Her best and most loved title was MOM!

Kerry was a ray of positivity, providing encouragement at the exact time it was needed. She was a singer and dancer at every concert, a UNC graduate and avid fan, a shopping fanatic, a spontaneous adventurer, and she got to know those around her on a deeper level. Kerry was a promise to make a return call, but often kept you waiting. A friend who always showed up (likely late) but she brought the party with her. She always gave 100% to everything she did.

She was slow to anger, quick to lend a hand, and an anchor to all who knew her. Her wit and charm broke through any situation and her personality lit up the room. Kerry cared for others in a deep and genuine way that was unique to her. She was compassionate, loving and kind. Her smile was contagious and her laugh was infectious. She left a mark on every person she met and she never met a stranger.

Kerry loved deeply. Her children were her most valued treasures. She strived every single day to reassure Cameron and Macy how much she loved them, how much they could accomplish, and how proud of them she was.

In addition to time with family and friends, Kerry loved cheering for her kids from the sidelines, camping, going to the beach, listening to a wide variety of music and traveling. Kerry served her community in many ways. Amongst Kerry’s greatest accomplishments were graduating from UNC Chapel Hill (Bachelor’s) and Western Carolina University (Master’s), 34 years working for Harris Teeter, receiving the Top Women in Grocery award, UCHRA leader, volunteering for ITAA and Union Academy, and a Rummikub champion.

Kerry is survived by her beautiful children Cameron and Macy Simmons, loving husband Chris Waller, parents Carl and Geri Pendell, her sister Katie Cole (Billy), brother Colin Pendell (Kelly), nieces Emma and Marleigh, her loving aunt Trudy Feeney and former husband Steve Simmons (Tiffaney), and of course, countless friends.

In her final weeks, Kerry said several times how she would take this disease above anyone else bear it. She wanted everyone to know that she loved them. As a testament to the way she lived her life, her hospital room was always full, and the nurses thought she was a local celebrity. She will leave a void, and will be greatly missed.

A visitation for Kerry will be held at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail in the Sossaman Chapel on Friday, August 2 from 6-7:30 pm. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail on Saturday, August 3 at 10 am.
