She was the daughter of Dr. Dick Slagle and Helen Field Slagle of Sylva.<\/p>\n<p>Lois was an educator at heart, earning her Bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, her Master\u2019s degree from Western Carolina University, and her Doctorate in Education from the University of Georgia. She taught in Haywood and Jackson Counties before moving into school administration at Fairview school and Jefferson, Ga until she retired in 1996. \u00a0Lois cared deeply about her family and community. Among her many endeavors, she served with the Guardian ad litem program and as a volunteer with Circles of Hope. Lois made sure her family knew it was important to \u201cdo good\u201d for others.<\/p>\n<p>Lois was predeceased by her parents and her children\u2019s father, Jerry DeWeese, Sr. Left to carry on her legacy are her children, Jerry (Catherine) DeWeese and Lyn (Jeff) Parkllan; her grandchildren Maggie DeWeese (Justyn), Katie McCollum (Aaron), Callan Hudson and Olivia Hudson. She is also survived by her brothers, Phil (Judi) Slagle, Tom (Gayle) Slagle, Ned Slagle; her \u201csister\u201d cousins Norma Allman and Betty Partain and her sister in law, Mary G.
