John was a proud Army Veteran and served during WWII. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing and hunting. John enjoyed traveling, especially going to the mountains. He adored spending time with his children and grandchildren.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"subscriber-only\">\n<p>In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitman was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Whitman; his son, Sidney Womack; son-in-law, Jay Besse; and brothers, Warren Whitman, Charles Whitman, Fred Whitman, James Whitman, and sister, Marian Edwards.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia T.
