He completed his undergraduate studies at Western Carolina University and earned his Master\u2019s Degree in Education from North Carolina State University. He met his wife of 49 years, Edna Blalock Burgin, while working at Western Electric in Burlington, NC. They later moved to Bahama, NC, where they started their family. He was an avid reader who enjoyed fishing trips to the lake and coaching his sons&#8217; basketball teams. He retired from the Durham County School System, where he touched the lives of many students as a drafting instructor and vocational guidance counselor.<\/p>\n<p>Don is survived by his sons Douglas Burgin (Meg) of Apex, Jason Burgin (Sara) of Raleigh, and Benjamin Burgin (Karen) of Chapel Hill, and his 10 grandchildren: Luke, Jenna, Olivia, Ethan, Ryland, Drew, Dalton, Kailyn, Aven, and Gavin Burgin.
