He was surrounded by the love of his devoted wife and\u00a0son.<\/p>\n<p>Those who knew Andy will forever remember his sharp wit, warm sense of humor, and the countless ways he brightened the lives of others. His quick comebacks and laughter will be cherished memories for family and friends\u00a0alike.<\/p>\n<p>Andy was born in Hohenems, Austria, on May 22, 1949, to Thomas and Mary Szechenyi Zichy as they fled Hungary during World War II. Together with Mary\u2019s parents and siblings, the family immigrated to America, where they settled in Asheville, NC. \u00a0Andy was the oldest of four siblings\u2014fondly referred to as the \u201cA, B, C, &amp; D kids\u201d: Andrew, Bernadette, Charles, and Doris. Their childhood was spent on Dunston Street until their father designed the family\u2019s forever home on Kensington\u00a0Drive.<\/p>\n<p>Andy graduated from Asheville Catholic High School before attending Western Carolina University. He later married his college sweetheart, Susan Kovalesky, with whom he built a beautiful life and family. After spending their early years in Haw Creek, they moved to Swannanoa, where they raised their three children\u00a0together.<\/p>\n<p>Andy worked at American Enka for 12 years before discovering his true calling in the grocery business. He spent more than 28 years with BI-LO, where he served as a store manager until his retirement in 2014. Andy was more than just a manager, he was a friend, mentor, and helping hand to so many. Whether offering rides to those without transportation or delivering firewood to families in need during the winter, his kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on his\u00a0community.<\/p>\n<p>Andy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Zichy; his mother, Mary Szechenyi Zichy; and his sister-in-law, Beverly\u00a0Zichy.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Susan; his children, Christy Zichy (Pete Kreycir), Michele Aiken (Dustin), and Michael Zichy (Elizabeth); and his grandchildren, Connor Aiken and Gwendolyn Zichy, who lovingly knew him as\u00a0\u201cPop-Pop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andy\u2019s legacy will live on through his laughter, his stories, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him. He often signed his emails with the phrase \u201cKeep smilin\u2019,\u201d and that is exactly what his family and friends will do as they honor his\u00a0memory.<\/p>\n<p>The family deeply appreciates the outpouring of love, support, and kindness during this\u00a0time.<\/p>\n<p>The visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home (856 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, NC).\u00a0 A Catholic Mass will follow on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church (102 Andrews Place, Swannanoa, NC). Inurnment will then take place at Riverside\u00a0Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Following mass, a reception will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton, 22 Woodfin St., Downtown Asheville, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Those who wish, may head straight to the reception in lieu of joining the family at the cemetery.
