Public Relations Student Society of America<\/span><\/h3>\n

WCU’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America is a pre-professional organization dedicated to providing members with experiences, tools, and knowledge that will help propel them to the next level of their careers. PRSSA aims to give members chances to improve their skills and portfolio while gaining professional exposure. Society of Professional Journalists<\/span><\/h3>\n

WCU\u2019s chapter Society of Professional Journalists revolves around professional development. When you join, you are opening yourself to a multitude of new opportunities, including training sessions, as well as their employment and career center, just to name a few. SPJ can truly help you out even as a student and especially in times like these. Student membership is $37.50 a year, and chapter dues are only $5.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since 1933, Western Carolina University students have written, edited, and produced The Western Carolinian as a monthly printed publication and as a virtual news site to serve the information needs of WCU students and others interested in or involved with the Catamount community. All students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to submit articles to The Western Carolinian. 95.3 WWCU FM<\/span><\/h3>\n

Since its inception in 1948, <\/span>WWCU has grown from being a small club to a professional learning laboratory in the Department of Communication, for students as well as any interested faculty and staff. The student-managed facility is on the air 24\/7\/365 serving the Jackson and Haywood County residents.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Western Carolina Journalist, WCJ,\u00a0<\/span><\/span> is the news website of the Department of Communication at Western Carolina University and was established in the fall of 2010. <\/span>The site is a part of the curriculum of the department, but day-to-day content and operation decisions are made by a student staff appointed by the faculty. WCJ\u00a0<\/span>explores the developing and expanding world of online journalism without any traditions \u2013 except for the tradition of the practice of good journalism. <\/span>It is committed to providing news and information to the community and Western Carolina University; to be an outlet for expression of different opinions and views; and to be a place where people can debate, discuss problems, and issues, and seek solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n
