Dr. Scott Eldredge, associate professor of communication at Western Carolina University, was recently granted the 2019-2020 Faculty Excellence in Community Engagement award by WCU\u2019s Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL).<\/p>\n
\u201cWestern Carolina University\u2019s commitment to the community is only as strong and committed as our faculty\u2019s efforts,\u201d said Lane Perry, executive director of CCESL. \u201cHe represents one of the best and brightest and we are honored to have the privilege to get to work with and learn from him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Eldredge, coming up on his seventh year at WCU in August, was grateful for the recognition.<\/p>\n
\u201cEngaging with students and local residents is not only an important part of my job but is also the most rewarding,\u201d Eldredge said. \u201cMentoring students and making a positive impact on our community will always be at the heart of my teaching and scholarship; it is an absolute honor to have received this award.\u201d<\/p>\n
Among Eldredge are 10 other faculty members across campus that CCESL has recognized for their work during the 2019-2020 academic year, including Dr. Betty Farmer, professor of communication. Regarding Eldredge, Perry specifically cited his commitment to the growth of students<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is evident in his mentorship of over 75 student-led projects with community partners over the past six years,\u201d Perry said. \u201cHe is literally teaching in a way that leaves a legacy in his students and that has been observed by his partners, his peers, and his students with whom he has worked.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Katerina Spasovska, head of WCU\u2019s Department of Communication, is one of those colleagues.<\/p>\n
\u201cScott is one of the most dedicated and engaging professors I have worked with,\u201d she said. \u201cHis commitment to students and the community is important to the department and the university and this recognition is well deserved.\u201d<\/p>\n
It goes without saying that his students have been positively impacted by his passion and enthusiasm for teaching as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cDr. Eldredge is a great professor all around,\u201d said Miranda Moore, senior communication student studying public relations. \u201cHe is knowledgeable, understanding, and is one of the most engaged professors I have had during my time at Western. He is always available to explain material further and is relatable to his students, making all of his courses fun and full of important information for future success.\u201d<\/p>\n
Each semester whether it is online or in-person, Eldredge always has a new set of students to engage with and inspire for the entirety of their professional careers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
