Because of her nomination, Noltensmeyer will deliver the 2021 Last Lecture on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thursday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the University Center Theatre.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The \u201cLast Lecture\u201d series began at Carnegie Mellon University in 2007 after Randy Pausch, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, gave his final lecture on achieving childhood dreams. Years later, the \u201cLast Lecture\u201d became a traditional award for professors on college campuses across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16684\" style=\"width: 236px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16684\" class=\"wp-image-16684 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/comm\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2021\/11\/candy-226x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"226\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-16684\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Candy Noltensmeyer, associate professor of communication. Photo from Dr. Candy Noltensmeyer.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Noltensmeyer, associate professor of communication, is a relational scholar whose research focuses on communicative dynamics in cultural competence, bias, feedback, social support, stigma, and sexuality.\u00a0 She teaches a variety of courses in human communication focusing on theory, research methods, health, sexuality, interpersonal and small group concepts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recognizing that every classroom is a unique culture, Dr. Noltensmeyer believes that building a positive classroom climate is imperative to fostering engaged learning opportunities. She also believes in applied learning, especially when it comes to communication. She uses a variety of activities and focused discussions to engage students with the material to foster a student-centered classroom.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Noltensmeyer\u2019s presentation is titled <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wcu.campuslabs.com\/engage\/event\/7576717\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis is Me\u201d: Authenticity, Inclusivity, and Connection in Relationships.\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Her lecture will focus on the interconnectedness between relationships and communication.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WCU Communication professor Dr. Candy Noltensmeyer was nominated for the 2020 Faculty of the Year Award, which is the only award decided solely by students at Western.
