Taylor Scholarship.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcu.edu\/WebFiles\/PDFs\/CTD_Taylor_Scholarship.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Roy A. Taylor Scholarship<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Roy A. Taylor Scholarship is given to a rising senior (or in some cases, a junior) with at least a 3.0-grade point average in the major and an overall grade point average of 2.75. Other criteria for selection include clear evidence of involvement in the practice of the profession such as student activities, community outreach projects, and engagement in other off-campus learning opportunities such as quality internships and study abroad.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHonestly I\u2019m thrilled to receive this scholarship,\u201d said winner Nick Childs.\u00a0 \u201cIt\u2019s a tremendous help as is any bit of scholarship or financial aid that I receive as a student. I truly appreciate the faculty, staff, and others for delegating this scholarship to me. I am thankful for the assistance it will provide during my academic career, easing the burden off my shoulder a bit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17436\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17436\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-17436\" src=\"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/comm\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2022\/03\/1B91D82B-636E-4FD2-B40E-2062907AAA7F-200x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-17436\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brandon Rice, recipient of the 2022-2023 Patrick Lee Carmody Fund Scholarship.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcu.edu\/WebFiles\/PDFs\/CTD_Carmody_Scholarship.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Patrick Lee Carmody Fund Scholarship<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The fund strives to provide continuing support for WCU students majoring in Communication. The Patrick Lee Carmody Scholarship is given to a rising senior with at least a 3.0-grade point average in the Communication major with a Broadcast concentration and an overall minimum grade point average of 2.75. Other criteria for selection include clear evidence of involvement in the practice of the profession such as student activities, community outreach projects, and engagement in other off-campus learning opportunities such as quality internships and study abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;I am honored to receive the Patrick Lee Carmody scholarship!\u201d winner Brandon Rice said. \u201c I&#8217;m very thankful to learn from many great professors in the Communications department. Being able to display my enthusiasm and interest in my classes is amazing! I&#8217;m looking forward to finishing my Communication degree here at Western and can&#8217;t wait to see what the future holds!&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dr. Kathleen A. Wright Scholarship<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This scholarship is in commemoration of Dr. Kathleen A. Wright\u2019s 35-year career at WCU. She was a professor and head of the Department of Communication. Wright served on every university committee and was eventually awarded the Paul A. Reid Service Award. S<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">he always had an incredible &#8220;can do&#8221; spirit when it came to her students and department.\u00a0 In 1996 Dr. Wright received one of the University&#8217;s highest honors, the Paul A. Reid Service Award.\u00a0 Upon her retirement, Dr. Wright was given the status of Professor Emeritus at Western Carolina University.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17437\" style=\"width: 414px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17437\" class=\"wp-image-17437\" src=\"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/comm\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/187\/2022\/03\/Headshot_TyraSyverson.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"339\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-17437\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tyra Syverson, recipient of the 2022-2023 Dr. Kathleen A. Wright Scholarship.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Kathleen A. Wright Scholarship is awarded to a communication major with a 3.0-grade point average and higher. Other criteria for selection include clear evidence of involvement in the practice of the profession such as student activities, community outreach projects, and engagement in other off-campus learning opportunities such as quality internships and study abroad.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI am incredibly grateful for the Department of Communication\u2019s Kathleen A. Wright scholarship, said winner Tyra Syverson. I have been passionate about putting energy into producing, directing, and assisting in creating productions in the TV studio within and outside of class time. I am thankful for this recognition and this monumental scholarship.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The scholarship recipients were decided by a committee of department faculty members, including Andy Gambill, John Walsh, and Tamera Cole.
