{"id":18139,"date":"2024-03-30T18:46:11","date_gmt":"2024-03-30T18:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/comm\/?p=18139"},"modified":"2024-03-30T18:46:11","modified_gmt":"2024-03-30T18:46:11","slug":"communication-students-in-potm-perform-in-ireland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/comm\/blog\/2024\/03\/30\/communication-students-in-potm-perform-in-ireland\/","title":{"rendered":"Communication Students in POTM Perform in Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Members of the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band went to Ireland to participate in the St. Patrick\u2019s Day parade from Tuesday, March 12 to Monday, March 18.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Two of those students were communication majors, Ashley Elliott, a junior in Health Communication, and Jacob Pendergraph, a sophomore in Broadcasting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The trip not only served as an opportunity for the students to showcase their skills and perform to an international community, but it was also Pride of the Mountains&#8217; first trip abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWords cannot express how incredible it was to go to Ireland and I can confidently say it will be the highlight of my time as a member of Pride of the Mountains,\u201d said Elliot. \u201cBeing able to travel abroad with my friends while doing band was an amazing experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Additionally, the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band was one of two U.S. bands chosen to perform in the parade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cTo travel overseas was really quite inspiring,\u201d said Pendergraph. \u201cJust to travel and see the different geographies and cultures was really eye-opening.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students were able to visit multiple areas during their time such as the Cliffs of Moher, The Book of Kells, The Gaelic Games and St. Patrick\u2019 Cathedral, as well as perform at Kilkenny Castle and throughout the streets of Dublin on St. Patrick\u2019s Day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cPerforming on St. Patrick&#8217;s Day was a surreal experience, it seemed like all of Ireland was watching us perform, it was so crowded and everyone seemed genuinely excited to watch us,\u201d said Pendergraph. \u201c[And] my favorite experience was definitely the Cliffs of Moher.
