{"id":18161,"date":"2024-04-30T08:49:21","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T08:49:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/comm\/?p=18161"},"modified":"2024-05-01T01:11:14","modified_gmt":"2024-05-01T01:11:14","slug":"comm-355-students-collaborated-with-the-wcu-school-of-music-to-livestream-velocitties-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/comm\/blog\/2024\/04\/30\/comm-355-students-collaborated-with-the-wcu-school-of-music-to-livestream-velocitties-performance\/","title":{"rendered":"COMM 355 Students Collaborated with the WCU School of Music to Livestream Velocitties Performance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Matt Binford, Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication, and his student in COMM 355 class collaborated with Justin Kennedy, Professor in the School of Music, and his students in the electronic music ensemble to present <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Velocitties Technology Ensemble Studio Performance<\/span><\/i> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">on April 25 at the WCU Recording Studio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The performance was streamed on YouTube and WWCU 95.3.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt is just exciting to bring live programming back to the radio station after the last few years,\u201d said Binford.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis collaboration came about after Don Connelly [communication professor], mentioned that we could use a Tieline device to connect the TV studio to the radio station,\u201d said Binford. \u201cIt was kind of perfect because it featured all original music produced by Western Students\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The WCU communication students and staff directed the show.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cEthan King works for the school of music, and he was the recording engineer for the show\u201d, said Binford. \u201cThe show was directed by Veronica Newsome and assistant directed by Ryan Creel. Don Connelly, Bryson Jusko and Luke Grozier handled things at the radio station.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI think this is an amazing opportunity for students,\u201d said Binford. \u201cI can see the students enjoy these shows and learn a lot from them. I very much would like to do more of them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kaitlyn Cabaniss, a broadcasting junior student, was also a part of the team and helped run the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI got to learn more about using the equipment and being professional,\u201d said Cabaniss. \u201cThis experience taught me how important our job is. There is so much art and creativity to share with the world and we get to share it! We all have unique gifts and talents we get to bring together to create something beautiful. I love seeing everyone excel in what they love and are good at. Working with a team like this just shows you the joy of others. It&#8217;s super inspiring.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Binford, his students and the communication department look forward to more opportunities soon.
