He explained that social media is a continuing factor in making disinformation widely available.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Druker co-founded Transitions, as a way to publish news, train journalists and respond to media.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cTransitions strives to support high-quality, independent journalism,\u201d Druker said. As well as supporting an informed and engaged public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Druker warned students to beware \u201calternative websites.\u201d These websites are designed to look genuine, but aid in promoting false information.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cChain emails are one of the most common ways disinformation is spread,\u201d said Druker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Druker acknowledged both how disinformation is spread and ways to fight against it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFact-checking and quality journalism are key tools in the fight against disinformation,\u201d Druker said, \u201can EU law would ultimately be effective in gaining ground in this war.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After Druker\u2019s talk, students had more information to evaluate their news sources and recognize disinformation. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Transitions co-founder, Jeremy Druker, visited communication students on August 27, to host a seminar on the importance of differentiating between disinformation and propaganda.
