{"id":18531,"date":"2026-01-31T22:22:38","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T22:22:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/comm\/?p=18531"},"modified":"2026-03-01T05:22:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-01T05:22:14","slug":"radio-programming-in-spring-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/comm\/blog\/2026\/01\/31\/radio-programming-in-spring-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"WWCU 95.3 Expanding Programming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WWCU 95.3 is a student-ran radio station that serves the Western North Carolina region and provides a variety of programming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur main goal is to increase our visibility to not only the broader Jackson county community, but to the student body and staff at WCU,\u201d said Halle Stanley, general manager of 95.3. \u201cWe\u2019d like to have something for everyone to tune into, whether that be public affairs programs, power hours, sports radiocasts, remotes, or simulcasting with other student media.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the past year, radio has been essential in providing emergency management and relief information, and continues to be a source for entertainment broadcasts as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIn my personal opinion, I think people should listen to the radio because the radio is fun and informative,\u201d said Stanley. \u201cThe student programs that we have on air have taken a lot of time, resources, and people involved to make these productions come to life. More so, they are collaborative, and it shows how a lot of student media is codependent on one another.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year, the station has increased the amount of remote broadcasts they typically produce. And have a collaborative relationship with Whee-TV to create more simulcasts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This semester the station has many opportunities for programming. They will have a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Power Hour<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> every other week. In February, there will be a Valentines themed show on the 10 and a Disco theme on the 24.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There will also be a remote on February 28 for Stray Cats, the last of the radio sportcasts with Whee-TV, as well as an Open House remote.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday join the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mountains in the Mornings <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">with Stanley and Ryan Creel, programming director, from 7 to 9 a.m.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other programs include <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Whee Life<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a radio news magazine that will be every Friday starting at the end of February. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tracking the Cats<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a talk show featuring Western Carolina alumni Bob Sabin &amp; Steve White as they interview guests about Western Carolina Sports. On Sunday\u2019s there is Mark Couture\u2019s Morning classic music program, every week from 10 to 12 p.m. And a remote at <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Greening Up the Mountains.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If interested in getting involved, students should join the radio club and connect to the GroupMe to get updates on all meetings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019d like for people to get more involved with the Power Hours, as well as help produce the remotes we will have throughout the semester,\u201d said Stanley. \u201cThey can also tune in anywhere from their phones by going to TuneIn.
