DESCRIPTION:On April 3\, 2019\, the Center for the Study of Free Enterprise at Western Carolina University will host Dr. Steve Ha from Western Carolina University and Dr. Samuel Myers from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities as part of the Free Enterprise Speaker Series. \n“Race Inequality: A discussion with Samuel Myers and Steve Ha on Race Neutrality” will feature a discussion about Ha and Meyer’s new book\, Race Neutrality\, and the research that went into it. Their book addresses ongoing racial disparities\, race-conscious policies that attempt to remedy them\, and race-neutral alternatives that might “…hold great promise in reducing disparities.” \nWCU’s Free Enterprise Speaker Series is a forum for the campus and community to explore all points of view on important issues of the day\, hear from renowned experts from a variety of fields and understand multiple perspectives. \nThe event\, which is set to start at 5 p.m. Wednesday\, April 3\, 2019\, in Forsyth Building Room 101\, is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:University Distinguished Speaker Series presents Phil Drake
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we welcome Phil Drake to the University Distinguished Speaker Series on April 24\, 2019. \nPhil entered the accounting arena and began developing Tax Software in 1977. His company now has over 900 people employed either full-time or part-time in Macon\, Clay and Haywood counties of NC\, in Nashville TN\, in Pennsylvania\, and New Hampshire.  Those businesses include accounting\, retail\, software\, dining\, theater\, golf\, printing\, internet service\, family entertainment\, construction\, and fiber optics. \nDrake Enterprises has teamed with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to build a fiber ring that connects the far western counties of North Carolina via a fiber backbone. \nThe software division of Drake serves over 55\,000 tax preparers throughout the United States\, and will electronically file 17 million federal tax returns and 14 million state returns this year.
