Hinds University Center theater.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_60328\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\">\n<p><a class=\"cb-lightbox\" href=\"https:\/\/news-prod.wcu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Free-Enterprise_-Tom-Hazlett-mobi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60328\" src=\"https:\/\/news-prod.wcu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Free-Enterprise_-Tom-Hazlett-mobi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"295\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Thomas Hazlett<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Thomas Hazlett, professor of economics at Clemson University, will tackle the topic of \u201cFlipping \u2018Net Neutrality:\u2019 What is the Dispute? What is the Evidence?\u201d in an examination of the sixth time in a decade that rules governing internet providers will likely change and the controversies that accompany such a move.<\/p>\n<p>Hazlett previously served as chief economist for the Federal Communications Commission. He also has held faculty positions at George Mason University, University of California at Davis and the Wharton School, and has published in various academic forums and contemporary periodicals such as the Wall Street Journal and the New York Daily News.<\/p>\n<p>Other upcoming programs scheduled:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thursday, March 22 \u2013 Benjamin Powell, professor of economics at Texas Tech University, will speak on \u201cThe Immigration Question,\u201d 5:30-6:45 p.m. in the UC theater.<\/li>\n<li>Monday, April 16 \u2013 Amity Shlaes, author and financial journalist, and Roy Cordato, senior economist with the John Locke Foundation, address \u201cRecent Federal Tax Reforms and Implications for North Carolina\u201d on what is, coincidentally, Tax Day, 5-6:15 p.m. in Forsyth 101.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With three events each semester, WCU\u2019s Free Enterprise Speaker Series \u201coffers a forum for the campus and community to explore all points of view on important issues of the day, hear from\u00a0renowned experts from a\u00a0variety of fields and understand multiple perspectives through civil, informed discourse,\u201d said Edward Lopez, WCU professor of economics and director of WCU\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wcu.edu\/learn\/departments-schools-colleges\/COB\/outreach-engagement\/csfe\/\"><strong>Center for the Study of Free Enterprise<\/strong><\/a>, which sponsors the series.<\/p>\n<p>The event is open to the public and free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Free Enterprise Speaker Series returns to Western Carolina University with a discussion on net neutrality and consequences of pending legislation 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at A.K.
