Hinds University Center theater.<\/p>\n<p>The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_77413\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\">\n<p><a class=\"cb-lightbox\" href=\"https:\/\/news-prod.wcu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Free-Enterprise-Speaker-Series-11-2018.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-77413\" src=\"https:\/\/news-prod.wcu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Free-Enterprise-Speaker-Series-11-2018.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"295\" height=\"295\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Craig Richardson<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The event will be led by Craig Richardson, professor of economics and director of the Center for the Study of Economic Mobility at Winston-Salem State University. The 11-minute short film by photographer and filmmaker Diana Greene examines a day in the life of Brittany Marshall, a Winston-Salem resident and single mother who is dependent on public transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Richardson will be joined by Edward Lopez, WCU professor of economics and director of the university\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/csfe\/\"><strong>Center for the Study of Free Enterprise<\/strong><\/a>, which sponsors the series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt issue are the everyday difficulties faced by the least advantaged in our society,\u201d said Lopez. \u201cThis conversation will include some of the best ways \u2015 which aren\u2019t always the most traditional ways \u2015 to help the poor in both our rural and urban communities in Western North Carolina and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richardson is the author of \u201cThe Collapse of Zimbabwe in the Wake of the 2000-2003 Land Reforms\u201d and numerous articles about economics for publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Barron\u2019s and Forbes.<\/p>\n<p>With three events each semester, WCU\u2019s Free Enterprise Speaker Series is a forum for the campus and community to explore all points of view on important issues of the day, hear from\u00a0renowned experts from a\u00a0variety of fields and understand multiple perspectives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Western Carolina University\u2019s Free Enterprise Speaker Series will host the documentary \u201cBus Stop Jobs\u201d and hold an open discussion about poverty and economic mobility in North Carolina on Monday, Nov.
