All briefs will be posted on the center\u2019s webpage, enterprise.wcu.edu, and accessible by the public and media outlets. Subsequent briefs will be issued on two- to three-week intervals through the remainder of the semester.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe new \u2018Issue Brief\u2019 series forms a bridge between the university and the broader community,\u201d said Edward Lopez, WCU professor of economics and center director. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to give faculty and staff a new platform to amplify their research while enhancing the public\u2019s understanding of key issues and debates.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The inaugural brief is titled <a href=\"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/csfe\/2019\/02\/25\/volume-1-issue-1-why-is-economic-mobility-so-surprisingly-low-in-north-carolina\/\">\u201cWhy Is Economic Mobility So (Surprisingly) Low in North Carolina?\u201d<\/a> and written by Craig Richardson of the Center for the Study of Economic Mobility at Winston-Salem State University. He examines how some North Carolina employment and opportunity hubs are leaving their poorest residents behind as the economy grows, and explores some initiatives to tackle the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WCU\u2019s\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/csfe\/\">Center for the Study of Free Enterprise<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0conducts scholarly research, policy analysis, educational endeavors and community outreach. It holds a regular guest speaker series, sponsors presentations by WCU students and faculty at professional conferences, and provides scholarship support for affiliated students.
