Grassy Bald
Grassy Balds are distinguished from other natural communities by the natural dominance of dense herbaceous vegetation in high elevation upland sites with deep soils. Vegetation consists of grasses, such as mountain oatgrass (Danthonia compressa), sedges and wildflowers, such as three-toothed cinquefoil (Sibbaldiopsis tridentata) and filmy angelica (Angelica triquinata). Most Grassy Balds now also contain areas of invading blackberries (Rubus spp.), shrubs, or trees.
