The Importance of Interdisciplinary Care

Interdisciplinary care involves professionals from multiple disciplines contributing as a cohesive team for the benefit of their clients. Teamwork in health care largely relies on systematic collaboration and enhanced communication to expand the traditional roles of health workers and to make decisions as a unit that works toward a common goal. Without this network of professionals working together, disjointed and possibly conflicting efforts are a heavy burden to both the clients and the healthcare system overall. Interdisciplinary care is paramount in achieving communication efficacy among healthcare providers, building a sense of solidarity, and fine tuning effective care plans for the maximum benefit of the client.

Collaborating in the Community

ProjectINTERACT currently works with families in our community seeking a consultative assessment and collaborative treatment recommendations. As part of our summer course experiences, participating families are paired with interprofessional student and faculty teams.
