The Western Carolina University Police Department held its second \u201cno shave\u201d campaign during the university\u2019s winter break as a fundraiser for the Staff Senate<\/a> Scholarship Fund. Participating officers raised $300 and Mike Byers, WCU\u2019s vice chancellor of administration and finance, matched that amount for a total of $600. As a year-round law enforcement agency, the WCU Police Department<\/a> has uniform and appearance codes for members of the force, with limitations on male facial hair.<\/p>\n

Chief Steve Lillard shared, \u201cOne goal of the police department is to build relationships within our community so that we can have positive interactions with groups on campus that are outside of our traditional law enforcement role. This event allows us to work with the Staff Senate on a very important topic that can directly impact our students and help them achieve their educational goals.\u201d The Staff Senate Scholarship Fund was created in 2007 to promote higher education and help relatives of staff members attend WCU.<\/p>\n
