About WCU’s Summer Undergraduate Research Program<\/h1>\n

WCU’s Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) is an intensive 8-week program, and a unique opportunity for students and faculty to engage in high impact practices and problem-based inquiry. <\/span><\/h4>\n

<\/span><\/h4>\n

SURP is an all-inclusive, multi-disciplinary program, open to all majors across campus. Students who apply and are accepted into SURP work closely with their faculty mentor to advance new knowledge in their respective disciplines. With a focus on experiential and inquiry-based learning, SURP faculty mentor students through the process, passing on their expertise, technical skills, and passion. Student-faculty teams often culminate their work in SURP with real impact on their discipline.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

    This program is a wonderful opportunity for students to do research. The kind of research that we need to grow in our careers and to make us more competitive on applications. Also, we greatly benefit from having a stipend, and the wonderful faculty who can guide our research. In applying for graduate school, SURP will have definitely made a huge impact on my ability to have more opportunities.<\/p>\n

    The SURP program helped me make a giant leap forward towards the completion my research project. The online format also allowed me to learn about a part of my field (computational chemistry) that I would have been reluctant to approach in normal conditions.<\/p>\n
