Timing, mechanism, detail and purpose all play important roles in feedback effectiveness.\u00a0 Miranda Lutyens, a Language and Literature teacher at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amersol.edu.pe\/\">The American School of Lima<\/a> (Peru), has found a tech tool that has helped to make feedback for her students, personal, constructive, and functional.<\/p>\n<p>Miranda has been using <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfexpert.com\/\">PDF Expert<\/a>, which is an application that is available for Mac, iPhone, and iPad devices.\u00a0 This application has many functions including annotating, text reading, editing, signing and more.\u00a0 Miranda discussed how she likes to color code her feedback to align with criteria from rubrics.\u00a0 This helps students to better monitor their progress and to make adjustments as needed.\u00a0 The feature that she is most excited about is annotating which allows her to make either typed or oral (recorded) notes to her students.\u00a0 This provides her the opportunity to \u201cspeak\u201d to her students in ways that written words cannot.\u00a0 She can say something encouraging, use her tone in ways that appear supportive and direct when necessary, and make suggestions or give input in a more personalized and authentic way.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1119 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/teacherleaders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2018\/08\/HS-Various-Photos-16-17_74_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"566\" height=\"378\" srcset=\"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/teacherleaders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2018\/08\/HS-Various-Photos-16-17_74_.jpg 1037w, https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/teacherleaders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2018\/08\/HS-Various-Photos-16-17_74_-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/teacherleaders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2018\/08\/HS-Various-Photos-16-17_74_-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/teacherleaders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2018\/08\/HS-Various-Photos-16-17_74_-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\"><strong>\u201cThere is power of the voice with feedback\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211; Miranda Lutyen<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This past semester, she offered her students the option of submitting a major assignment early for feedback to help with revisions.\u00a0 She was \u201cimpressed with how many chose to revise\u201d.\u00a0 The feedback which was created using <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfexpert.com\/\">PDF Expert<\/a>, helped the students to better understand the changes that needed to be made.\u00a0 Miranda says it\u2019s almost like having a face to face conference\u201d.\u00a0 This provides an opportunity to both encourage students and to critique their work, all with the goal of increased learning and quality of the end product.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to using <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfexpert.com\/\">PDF Expert<\/a> for assignment feedback, Miranda uses it as an instructional tool.\u00a0 Projecting from her tablet, she is able to seamlessly model during instruction by using the built-in tools.\u00a0 Her students have even begun to utilize the annotating feature of this application to help prepare for oral examinations which is an end of year requirement.\u00a0 This can be a dreaded and challenging task and it represents 15% of their final grade so adequate preparation is imperative.\u00a0 Students can make notes and verbally annotate within a document in a way that simulates their preparation for their oral examinations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1122 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/teacherleaders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2018\/08\/background-black-and-white-blackboard_feedback-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"420\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/teacherleaders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2018\/08\/background-black-and-white-blackboard_feedback-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/teacherleaders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2018\/08\/background-black-and-white-blackboard_feedback-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/teacherleaders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2018\/08\/background-black-and-white-blackboard_feedback-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/affiliate.wcu.edu\/teacherleaders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/48\/2018\/08\/background-black-and-white-blackboard_feedback-1080x720.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that an Apple product is not required to preview comments that are created using <a href=\"https:\/\/pdfexpert.com\/\">PDF expert<\/a>.\u00a0 As long as the device has a general PDF reader, anyone can view and\/or listen to comments on the document.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Feedback is an important contributor to student learning.
