Our March WNC Elementary STEM Community of Practice virtual gathering will take place on Tuesday, March 25th from 4:00-5:00pm on Zoom. After a brief introduction, our highlight will focus on Tourism Through STEM–Creating Local Field Guides. Robin Welker (3rd grade teacher at Robbinsville Elementary in Graham County) and Liz Beck (Learning Designer with RootEd) will share this project in which third grade students design and print field guides to promote tourism and showcase their community. They collaborate with local partners to support learning science (plants/ecosystems), social studies, and English Language Arts standards and develop and use technology skills. After the highlight, we will engage in breakout room discussions to connect and collaboratively consider ways to apply ideas in our own settings. Click here to register.
