Our March 2025 WNC Elementary STEM Community of Practice virtual gathering highlighted Tourism Through STEM–Creating Local Field Guides. Robin Welker (3rd grade teacher at Robbinsville Elementary in Graham County) and Liz Beck (Learning Designer with RootEd) shared this project in which third grade students are designing and printing field guides to promote tourism and showcase their community. They are collaborating with local partners to support learning science (plants/ecosystems), social studies, and English Language Arts standards and to develop and use technology skills.
